Services

The library has a variety of adult and junior materials including books, paperbacks, periodicals, compact discs, CD ROM discs and audio & videotapes. The adult materials are found in the main floor reading room and continues on the second floor. Materials in the Children's section are arranged by age and reading levels. All library materials are accessible through a traditional card catalog as well as an online catalog.

CONNECTICARD: We issue cards to the residents of Groton and Stonington and accept valid library cards from any public library in the state of Connecticut. Stonington residents can use our card for access to Groton and Waterford, hence the "system use only" stamp on their library cards. If Stonington residents want access to all libraries in the state they must carry a Stonington Free Library card. Groton residents can use our card at any library in the state.

Books borrowed from us may be returned to any library in the state, but should be done so before the deadline. Books borrowed from any other library may be returned to us and we will forward them to the owning library.

INTER-LIBRARY LOAN: We can borrow books from most of the public libraries in the state and have them delivered here for you. You can either request that the staff researches the locations or you can check for them through our online catalog (Groton, Waterford, and Mystic) or through the state library/ReQuest site (Iconn.org.....library catalogs.....ReQuest.....you can find Mystic Noank and enter or choose "generic"). Once you have the location, you can inform us of your requested title and the possible source.

You can place online reserves with Groton and Waterford, and we will call you when the material is delivered.

CIRCULATION: Books, audio tapes, paperbacks and magazines circulate for three weeks; new books on reserve circulate for 10 days. Feature videos circulate for two nights with no charge; children's movies circulate for one week. They must be returned TO THE CIRCULATION DESK. Renewals of most materials may be made by phone or online. Late charges are $.10 per day per item for everything except videos. The late charge for videos is $2 per day.

DOWNLOADABLE AUDIO BOOKS: To download an audio book, start at our webpage, www.mysticnoanklibrary.org. Connect to the Mystic & Noank Library Catalogue and choose Statewide Catalog in blue near the top. Enlarge the page that opens and choose Mystic & Noank Library, then choose Downloadable Audiobooks in the column on the left. Choose the book you would like to download and double click on it to check its availability. If it is available, choose Add to Bookshelf on the right. Put in your library card number without any spaces. Then choose Go to Bookshelf to download the book. Once you download a book, it will remain on your bookshelf until the date of return, usually 2 weeks. If it is not available you can place a hold on it and enter your email address to get notification when the book is available.


FACILITIES: A meeting room is available for public use, as well as a community bulletin board and two display cases. A table for free books and magazines is located in the front hall. We have typewriters, copiers, computers with internet access and a FAX for public use.

WIRELESS INTERNET: The library provides wireless access for users with their own laptop computers equipped with wireless network cards. Printers are not available via the wireless connection. If you need to print, save to a floppy disk and use one of the public workstations to print.

PUZZLES:The library has more than 250 puzzles that can be checked out for a three week period.

READER SERVICES: We now have circulating libraries at Stoneridge, Academy Point and Mystic River Homes. Books and videos are available for use by the residents of those facilities. The collections change every three months. We also deliver books to the homebound.
